Founded in 1997, ABSAR was established in response to a tragic failed rescue at sea, highlighting the urgent need for a dedicated emergency response service in Antigua and Barbuda. Over the years, it has evolved from a small group of volunteers into the official search and rescue organization for the nation, operating around the clock. ABSAR's services include marine emergency response, medical aid, firefighting support, and community training programs. The organization operates from two bases, ensuring rapid response across the islands. Funded entirely by donations, ABSAR relies on community support to maintain its operations and provide essential services free of charge.
