Primocon is a fast-drying, one-component, aluminium-pigmented vinyl anti-corrosive primer designed for use below the waterline before applying antifouling paint. It is suitable for various substrates, including wood, polyester, steel, aluminium, cast iron, and lead keels. Primocon can be applied under all International antifoulings or as an isolating layer over an old incompatible antifouling paint or one of unknown nature. It can be recoated with itself after long periods and is quick-drying even in poor conditions. The primer can be applied by brush, roller, or spray gun.
Application Tips:
- Bare Polyester: Sand with abrasive grade 180-220. Apply one coat of Primocon.
- Bare Wood/Plywood: Sand with abrasive grade 80-180, followed by sanding with abrasive grade 280. Remove sanding residues by brushing, wiping, or sweeping. In case of solvent wiping, allow to dry completely before applying the recommended products for direct application on wood. Apply a coat of Primocon diluted at 10-15% with Thinner No. 3, followed by 3 coats.
- Aluminium: Degrease with solvent or a suitable detergent. Sand well using abrasive paper grade P24-P120 (compatible with aluminium). Coarser grades are recommended to achieve perfect adhesion. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry. Apply the first coat of the chosen International primer as soon as possible (within 8 hours). Apply a coat of Primocon diluted at 10-15% with Thinner No. 3, followed by 5 coats.
- Zinc/Galvanised Steel: Degrease with solvent or a suitable detergent. Sand well with abrasive paper grade P60-P120. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry completely. Apply the first coat of the chosen International primer. Apply a coat of Primocon diluted at 10-15% with Thinner No. 3, followed by 5 coats.
- Lead: Degrease with solvent or a suitable detergent. Sand with abrasive grade 120, or prepare the surface with a rotary wire brush. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry. Apply the first coat of the chosen International primer. Apply a coat of Primocon diluted at 10-15% with Thinner No. 3, followed by 5 coats.
- Steel: Blast clean to white according to standard Sa 2½. If this is not possible, grind with grade P24/P36 to achieve a uniform appearance and a roughness of 50 to 75 microns. For small surfaces, perform grinding. Apply a coat of Primocon diluted at 10-15% with Thinner No. 3, followed by 5 coats.
