Alidade Sextant Overview
In traditional navigation, the alidade sextant can be used to determine the current position by plotting 3 bearings of known objects or checking the current bearing in relation to the sun or stars. It is an invaluable tool for compass compensators: the compass deviation can be determined by comparing the compass reading with the sun's azimuth or the known bearings of distant objects, such as navigation aids or lighthouses.
