- Using a ruler, cut pieces of abrasive suitable for your sanding block to minimise paper waste
- Soak the paper to soften it before sanding the filler to prevent it from breaking
- The abrasive paper must remain well-moistened during operations; otherwise, it will catch on the surface, reducing the effectiveness of the technique
