The GEL battery range offers better discharge cycle durability as well as a longer overall lifespan.
The use of high-purity materials and lead-calcium grids ensures, for both AGM and GEL batteries, a low self-discharge: They will not go flat even after long periods without being charged.
Both ranges come with perforated flat copper terminals M8, ensuring the best possible contact.
As a result, battery terminals are not necessary.
The batteries are compliant with CE and UL specifications regarding flame-retardant ABS containers, and they are covered by Victron's global two-year warranty
In this type of battery, the electrolyte is immobilised in gel form.
Gel batteries generally have a longer lifespan and better cycling capacity than AGM batteries.
VRLA GEL: lifespan 12 years
Low self-discharge
Thanks to the use of lead-calcium grids and high-purity materials, Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for long periods without requiring a recharge.
The self-discharge rate is less than 2% per month at 20ºC!
Self-discharge doubles for every 10ºC increase in temperature.
In cool environments, Victron VRLA batteries can therefore be stored for up to a year without recharging.
Exceptional deep discharge recovery
Victron VRLA batteries have a remarkable recovery capacity even after deep or prolonged discharge.
However, it should be noted that frequent deep or prolonged discharges adversely affect the lifespan of any lead-acid battery, and Victron batteries are no exception.
Discharge characteristics of the batteries
The nominal capacities of Victron AGM and Gel ‘deep cycle’ batteries are given for a 20-hour discharge, which corresponds to a discharge current of 0.05C.
The nominal capacity of long-life GEL tubular plate batteries is given for a 10-hour discharge.
The effective capacity decreases for faster discharges at high intensities.
The capacity reduction will be even faster with constant power consumers such as converters.
