The Black Fury, introduced in 1962, quickly became very popular. To this day, the only more popular range from Mepps is the original Aglia from 1938.

The Black Fury offers a medium running spoon on a subtle black background. For years, there were only two colours offered: fluorescent red and the original with yellow dots. The chartreuse colour was later added in response to anglers' requests and more recently, the fire tiger, a combination of the three existing colours. The Black Fury offers all the quality of Mepps. The use of premium brass with machined components allows these lures to maintain their balance and function effectively for years. The spoons are made of brass, the lure shaft is made of Swedish stainless steel, and the hooks are of superior quality. From the smallest #00 at 1/18 ounce, for crappies or for the angler who loves ultra-light, to the largest #5 at ½ oz including the B5M Musky Killer for pike and muskellunge, the Black Fury has been responsible for tens of thousands of memorable catches around the world over the last 50 years.
