Agricola Punica is a joint venture between the renowned winemaker Sebastiano Rosa and the Sardinian winery Cantina di Santadi. The Montessu is a blend of Carignano, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes, grown in the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT region of Sardinia. The history of winemaking in Sardinia dates back to the Nuragic civilization, which flourished on the island from the 18th to the 2nd century BC. The Montessu is a tribute to this ancient culture, which left behind impressive stone structures known as nuraghi.
The Montessu is produced using sustainable viticulture practices, with a focus on preserving the natural balance of the ecosystem. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, before undergoing a gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by a further 6 months of bottle aging.
The Montessu is a deep ruby red wine, with aromas of blackberry, cherry, and plum, complemented by hints of vanilla and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. This wine pairs well with grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses.
